YEAR 1

Dear Parents,

Welcome to another term of remote learning. I remember when this was announced in class, there were so many students who sighed in disbelief that they would have to learn from home again. School is not only a place for academic learning but also where students get to meet and socialise with their friends and classmates. This side of their school life is also an integral part of their development and I know that students are missing being around their teachers and classmates. However, in the current circumstances as directed by the government, this is the best option to keep everyone safe and healthy.

We had a very busy 3 weeks of onsite learning with students engaged in the class with their work and showing huge improvements in all areas of the curriculum. I would like this to continue by students being punctual for the Zoom sessions every day and completing all assigned tasks on time.

In English, we have been focussing on Procedural writing this term and students enjoyed making “Sock puppets” and growing “Cress hair” during the first 2 weeks of school and then writing the procedure for those activities. During remote learning, we are continuing this by making some delicious food and writing the procedure, but the key is to follow the correct structure. For Grammar, our focus has been verbs.

In Maths, students have been learning to tell time by using both analogue and digital clocks. They had fun making their own clocks to practise “o” clock and “half past” times. We also practised counting by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. In the next 2 weeks, our focus will be on 3D shapes and their attributes.

For STEM, during the 3 weeks at school, students created objects, buildings, as well as city scenes from Lego. They worked in small groups, showed a lot of teamwork and sharing of ideas with each other during the sessions.

On Wednesday, 19th August, Year 1 students had a crazy hat/hair day. They were so excited to attend their Zoom session wearing their wonderful creations. It was a nice way to add some fun and laughter to our day. Lots of snap shots from the past 6 weeks of school.

Year 1 ACTIVITIES

Just a reminder, regarding assessments, no assistance should be provided, and it should be the child’s original work that should be uploaded. More information will be available soon regarding dates and times for each assessment. Please make sure that we have every student attending those sessions.

Thank you, dear parents, for your amazing effort in supporting your child with their learning and in turn supporting us, teachers.
